Scott and I left the skating rink, casually strolling back up the mall. We had only gone about half the block when I saw my next Stranger standing with a group of women. Still feeling energized by my encounter with Kenny, I pushed aside my normal reserve and asked the only male in the group if I could take his photo. He looked around his group, who offered nonverbal encouragement, then shrugged and agreed. When I explained my project to him, he was intrigued and happy to participate.
This is Shaun. He was downtown attending a conference and was on a break when I ran into him, which is why he was outside enjoying the sun with his coworkers. Shaun is a cook at a local golf club, and has been for a few years. I laughed and told him my company held our annual golf tournament at the course he worked at for at least the last ten years — another funny coincidence on the same day.
