After months of this project and several low spots, and despite the great day last week when I met Roslyn (068), Stefana (069), and Mustafa (070), I reached a different type of low. I began to question why do I do this project, who do I choose to photograph, and why them? It made for a weird headspace to be wandering around with. However, I persisted, and in my aimless wandering, passed by The Bow building. Food trucks had been parking outside the building for a few weeks, drawing in crowds of people. As I strolled through the crowd, a gentleman caught my attention. However, it took me a few minutes to approach him because he was in the middle of eating his lunch and I did not want to disturb him.
This is Nathan. He works in The Bow and was very open to the idea of the project. We chatted for about 15 minutes on a variety of topics — and of course his fantastic moustache! Nathan is a soccer fan and has watched a great deal of the World Cup. He’s obviously cheering for Germany (who just beat the USA this morning). When it came time to do the photo, I moved Nathan under some shade. I had originally planned on using the reflective background for interest, but given the light difference, the background just blacked out, contrasting well with his jersey.
